Movie of the day: “Tengo miedo torero”

Alfredo Castro, outstanding lead in 2008 Pablo Larrain’s Tony Manero, is “La Loca del Frente”, old and lonely transvestite who got involved in risky off-the-book operation after he’s fallen in love with Carlos (Leonardo Ortizgris, seen in 2014 Güeros), FPMR guerrilla (Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez) fighting against Pinochet military dictatorship in Chile in the early Eighties.

Tengo miedo torero (2001) is the first and only novel by Pedro Lemebel, Chilean essayst and reporter who became a queer culture icon and died in 2015 for laryngeal cancer. After quite a complicated  development, finally there’s a movie based upon Lemebel’s novel with the contribution of the writer himself who worked with director Sepulveda who’s very well remembered for Aurora (2014).
