La Biennale di Venezia remembers Jean-Paul Belmondo

Jean-Paul Belmondo, one of the greatest French actors, passed away today, September 6 2021. He was 88.

The Presidente, the Board and the Artistic Director of Venice Film Festival of Mostra del Cinema and la Biennale di Venezia remember with great affection and admiration Jean-Paul Belmondo, iconic actor of international and French cinema, the first outstanding protagonist of the modern spirit of Nouvelle Vague.

Jean-Paul Belmondo has been in Venice Film Festival since the beginning of his career together with masterpieces of the Nouvelle Vague such as Claude Chabrol’s À double tour (1959),  Pierrot le fou (1965) directed by Jean-Luc Godard.

Jean-Paul Belmondo received Leone d’oro alla carriera in 2016

Artistic Director Alberto Barbera wrote in the explanatory statement: “A fascinating face, an irresistible charm, an extraordinary versatility that allowed him to play dramatic, action and also slapstick roles that made him a worldwide appreciated star both from art house directors and mainstream cinema”.
