An intimate tribute to London, in particular to Soho where Edgar Wright lived for more than 25 years. The much awaited psyschedelic psychological thriller Last Night in Soho arrives in Venezia 78.

“I have a conflicting relationship with London: I love the city, but it i salso scaring. I lived in Soho for more than 25 years, it was unavoidable set a movie there. I was thinking about this for a long time, I had to do it” explains the director.

Music has a fundamental role in the movie, as always in Wright’s works.

“Eloise and I, the character played by Thomasin McKenzie, have a lot in common. I grew up listening to my parents records from the Sixties. That music is my time machine, all the songs I used for the movie means a lot for me”.

Anya Taylor-Joy, protagonist of Last Night in Soho with Thomasin Mckenzie, is for the first time at Lido.

“I fall in love of my job more and more every day. I feel lucky and privileged to work with such talented people” says Taylor-Joy that plays Sandie, a mysterious and beautiful wannabe singer from the Sixties. “Acting with music is glorious, I love songs from those years” – said the actress that in the movie sings and dances as well. – “The singing scene was frightning, I sang just in the shower unitl that moment!”.

Wright mixes genres and and Last Night in Soho is full of references. “I was thinking about movies and genres I miss and directors like Michael Powell, Hitchcock, Dario Argento, Bava. I wanted to find a Londoner version inspired by their works and most of all I wanted to make a movie in the hearth of London, Soho is not a usual set for productions”.
