Mainetti and Braga awarded for the soundtrack of Freaks Out

Gabriele Mainetti’s Freaks Out wins Soundtrack Stars Award 2021 for the best soundtrack of the competition of Venezia 78. The jury also gave an award to  Ornella Vanoni, the protagonist in Venice: voice and music “Senza fine”.

Freaks Out won because «with Braga – says the official statement of the jury – Mainetti makes a soundtrack that reinterprets the classics. Franz, the exalted nazi turns Radiohead’s Creep in Rachmaninov style. Bella ciao meets Avant-garde music and research just like the storytelling of a movie that goes through genres and combines history and fantasy, past and future». «I know Michele since ever – says Mainetti receiving the award by the hand of Laura Delli Colli, President of Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani – we work very well together. We wrote the soundtrack of Jeeg Robot together, this time was more difficult». «The soundtrack of Freaks Out – said Braga – is conceived to underline also the single characters that are identified by a particular tune».

The soundtrack is published by EDIZIONI CURCI and GOON FILMS.

The jury of Soundtrack Stars Award 2021 – produced by Andrea Camporesi (Free Event) – is composed by Laura Delli Colli (President, representing SNGCI) and by journalists Antonella Nesi (Adnkronos), Marina Sanna (La rivista del Cinematografo), Stefania Ulivi (Corriere della Sera), Alessandra Vitali (Repubblica), Giuseppe Fantasia (Huffington post), Carola Carulli (Tg2).

Special mention for Anya Lily Amirpour’s Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon in which dubstep, metal and Italian techno dance beats strong the heart of New Orleans thanks to the hypnotic soundtrack by Daniele Luppi, enriched by a version of Odio l’estate di Bruno Martino, a touch of class, and tracks of Guglielmo Bottin, a real master of electronic covers of Italian horror classics.

In the 2021 edition, the Prize pays tribute to Ornella Vanoni, her extraordinary voice and her love story with music. A story that never ends, “Senza fine”, as one of her evergreen songs, but also as the title of the film by Elisa Fuksas, presented at the Venice Days, in which she tells Vanoni with extraordinary sincerity even in the intimacy of a daily life that reveals something in more than his private.

Elegant, iconic and this year once again surprising in music as in the film to which she delivers unpublished reflections and images, Ornella Vanoni is a protagonist and an icon of the Italian songwriting: not only with her unmistakable voice but also with her ironic verve has been able to cross time and the customs of a country that has applauded her in music as well as in theatre and from time to time also in cinema, becoming an authentic myth of the Italian music scene.

The award was created to enhance the fundamental role of music in the world of cinema and every year it is increasingly affirmed as a symbol of international cultural excellence. It is a special event also organized by Free Event at the Exhibition among the initiatives promoted by the SNGCI (which since the first edition has been among the partners of the initiative).
