If it was a picture it would be a group of talents, faces, dialects, drama and comedy and tragedy and most of all everyday stories of the Italian storytelling that in Venice, at least on the big screen, is unmasked.
It happens in the movies in competition. Paolo Sorrentino marked the way, Martone, Mainetti and D’Innocenzo Bros will follow. Filippo Scotti is very talented and is a moving young Fabietto Schisa, the boy that embodies Sorrentino’s memories and the pain. Teresa Saponangelo and Toni Servillo are actual parents and the iconic aunt Luisa Ranieri is one of the many very human portraits of our country balancing feelings and fights even in the apparently most happy families. Leonardo Di Costanzo, Wilma Labate, Laura Bispuri are no less.
It’s easy to say that after the first week, Venezia 78 offers great blockbusters and stars walking on the red carpet, but this Made in Italy is a world of actors that fill the screen.
Venezia 78 is the festival of Hollywood’s come back and the restart of Italian cinema. We just still miss the big audience in the theatres. Artistic Director Alberto Barbera is right: Italian cinema is alive and full of stories, brave authors and talented actors.
Thanks to this outstanding cast, Italian cinema gives a great message and is ready to compete for Golden Lion and more.
