Giorgio Verdelli gives tribute to Ezio Bosso

Music is king at Venezia 78. Giorgio Verdelli’s Ezio Bosso. Le cose che restano is a documentary about the much-loved pianist and maestro who passed last year. «Music is a generator of memories» says the director and this is according to him, the reason why music docs are so successful in the last few years. «Many great stars are not with us anymore, but there’s still the strong desire to watch and listen to them». Bosso was «a kind of philosophy of music, not only for his compositions but mostly for his storytelling of music. Many people approached classical music thanks to him». The movie produced by Silvia Fiorani for Sudovest Produzioni with Indigo Film and Rai Cinema is very exhaustive because «in this case, the life of the artist is completely connected to his music». Verdelli already directed Pino Daniele – Il tempo resterà (Silver Ribbon 2018) and Paolo Conte, Via con me (in Venice last year). This time «is different from the previous movies, there’s not a storyteller because is Boss himself» with family, friends and collaborators such as Paolo FresuGabriele Salvatores and Silvio Orlando. The connection of the musician with cinema is strong, Bosso composed four soundtracks for Gabriele Salvatores and even the recent Bellocchio’s Marx può aspettare. There are some surprises in the movie: «We found the footage of a performance with his quartet, l’Orchestra del Regio and Salvatores made for Io non ho paura». There’s also a backstage of the recording of the soundtrack of Il ragazzo invisibile produced at Abbey Road Studios with the  London Symphony Orchestra. Last but not least, there’s the unreleased title track, The Things That Remain.
