Zalava by Arsalan Amiri wins best movie

Iranian ghost story Zalava by Arsalan Amiri wins the 36th International Critic’s Week. The decision was made by the jury composed by Claudio CupelliniVanja Kaludjercic and Sandrine Marques.

«The jury», says the award statement «is been surprised by the directing expertise of the director although this one is his first feature. It’s a mature job sailing through different feelings». The jury also praises the message of the movie about «statement, superstition and ignorance. The director represents a fresh voice that thanks to a joyful cinematic language transmits a universal message» Zalava also wins FIPRESCI award, from the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique

Erasing Frank (Eltörölni Frankot) by Gábor Fabricius won the award Premio Circolo del Cinema di Verona for the most innovative movie. Premio Mario Serandrei – Hotel Saturnia for Best Technical Achievement goes to They Carry Death (Eles transportan a morte), by Helena Girón and Samuel M. DelgadoQueer Lion Award has been won by a feature from the SIC, La dernière séance, by Gianluca Matarrese. “Autrici under 40” has been won by Ekaterina Selenkina for Detours

Short competition SIC@SIC. The jury composed of Jacopo ChessaSilvia Luzi and Nadia Trevisan gave the Award for best short film to Inchei by Federico Demattè who wins also for best direction. L’incanto by Chiara Caterina wins the award for best technical contribution. 

«This has been an edition of ICW with multiple, curious and omnivore view that represents the complexity of the present through universal themes and original shapes», says Beatrice Fiorentino, General Delegate of ICW.President of Sindacato Nazionale Critici Cinematografici Italiani (SNCCI) Franco Montini adds that «even if ICW as always been focused on new authors, languages and usual and unusual ideas, we don’t want to promote a unique cinematic model, but bring under the sun everything we consider worth of interest».
