30 new doc for Cinecittà and the birth of The Film Club

President Chiara Sbarigia: "30 titles to feed the country's imagination."

The Luce Cinecittà factory becomes the home of the Italian documentary. In the last ten years, the historic brand that manages the immense archive of Luce, has produced over 200 titles, collecting awards at significant world  film festivals. Now Luce aims at innovation under the banner of a new slogan, Anno Luce, to produce “30 titles with which to feed the country’s imagination.” Chiara Sbarigia, President of Cinecittà Luce for a year and a manager with a long experience in the audiovisual industry, unveils today the future strategy for documentary features. “The pole star of our headline for 2022-23 will be quality, searching for our best talents and new languages and point of views, and attention to the audience.”  Among the 30 titles in the new proposal, there are Daniele Luchetti’s portrait of Carla Fracci; Daniele Vicari on the traces of Fela Kuti’s musical genius; Agostino Ferrente, who after Selfie, David for best documentary, surprises with a Selfie 2; and Enrico Ghezzi in Gli ultimi giorni dell’umanità, selected for the official selection here in Venice. And again, Wilma Labate reinterpretes history in an intimate and pop key in Those two about Edda and Galeazzo Ciano. Lotta continua, directed by Tony Saccucci. Pio La Torre as seen by Walter Veltroni, and Francesco Patierno’s new work, Wake Me Up at Midnight. “We are strengthening the production partnerships,” Sbarigia stressed, “to conquer new programming spaces on TV and platforms. We have projects with Rai Cinema, Rai Documentaries, Sky, also thanks to the support aimed at independent productions.” A commitment worth 1.5 million investment in 2022.

The Film Club is Italy’s first multichannel streaming platform and was launched at the Venice Film Festival yesterday with the blessing of Laura Chiatti and Maro Bocci. The platform includes in its initial offer more than 800 titles among three channels:  Rarovideo Channel, Full Action and Minerva Classic. New channels will be introduced soon to enrich the offer further. The project comes from the idea of Gianluca Curti, CEO of Minerva Pictures, and the company’s Digital Team. The Film Club is a partner of the 37th International Critics’ Week (SIC) and will award The Film Club Audience Award at the end of the festival.
