Dead for a Dollar: Walter Hill is back

DEAD FOR A DOLLAR

USA, Canada 2022, Director Walter Hill With Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, Rachel Brosnahan, Warren Burke, Benjamin Bratt Running time 114’

«Inside and outside the tradition, Walter Hill constantly redesign the borders of the genre that shape the horizon of his cinema, nonetheless transcending the conventions and constantly searching for a constructive relationship with the American myth inherited from classic cinema and, on the other side, for truly ethical and artistic modernity. Author in the fullest sense of the term, Walter Hill has no trouble considering himself a specialist in action movies in which violence is subjected to different degrees of stylization, and the research of unseen visual effects is a chase with constant experimentation of the possibilities of the cinematic language». These are the words of Artistic Director of Venice Film Fest Alberto Barbera about Walter Hill that today in Sala Grande (21.45) will receive Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker award, right before the first screening out of competition of his last feature Dead For A Dollar. The story is based on the screenplay The Moon of Popping Trees by Matt Harris (in 2002 won the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting Award), adapted for the screen by Hill himself.
