Pietro Bianchi Award 2022 goes to Stefania Sandrelli, a longtime protagonist of our cinema and today of the 79. Venice International Film Festival. During the event, Sandrelli talked about her connection with the city and her past:

“THIS RIBBON IS A TRIBUTE TO MY HISTORY AND MY WAY OF BEING, FIRST AND FOREMOST, A CINEPHILE. IN VIAREGGIO, WHERE I WAS BORN, THERE WERE MORE CINEMAS THAN CHURCHES, AND MY BROTHER USED TO TAKE ME TO SEE TWO OR THREE FILMS A DAY OF EVERY GENRE. I AM VERY FOND OF THIS FESTIVAL, TO ITS AUDIENCE AND VENICE. MY DAUGHTER WAS CONCEIVED RIGHT HERE IN AN UNFORGETTABLE COLD JANUARY. I LOVE THIS CITY THAT REPRESENTS THE WORLD. SO BEAUTIFUL, IT SEEMS ALMOST SEEN FROM A PAIR OF GLASSES. VENICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL SOMETIMES IT SEEMS UNREAL, IT CONCRETIZES THE DREAM AND IMAGINATION OF BEAUTY.”

The Prize celebrates a long season of Sandrelli’s love affair with cinema on the day of her return to the Festival with Acqua e anice, Corrado Ceron’s debut feature, a special event coming up in Venice Days.
