Maccanico: “Cinecittà engine of development”

Angelina Jolie, Nanni Moretti, Pietro Castellitto, Paola Cortellesi, Saverio Costanzo, are just some of the artists who have chosen Cinecittà to shoot their new films. “We have international productions, Italian productions, independent producers, streamers, majors,” emphasizes Nicola Maccanico, Cinecittà’s CEO. “Soon will also arrive M the series based on Scurati’s novel. We aim to close 2022 in profit.”  Cinecittà’s great past passes through the future of an industrial reality capable of competing with the big international studios. “Today 11 productions are shooting, 2,500 people a day enter Cinecittà,” Maccanico stresses, “We are working on technological innovation and sustainability, two fundamental elements to be even more of a protagonist in the market. The use of solar panels, the focus on energy waste, and zero impact are not matters of fashion but competition because only by being able to keep up with “green” demands will Cinecittà be able to increase its productions. “The goal is to reach zero impact in 10 years,” adds Maccanico, who is also convinced that more space is needed because many square meters are available but not enough. “Its 19 theatres put Cinecittà ahead of the average,” he says, “But we need there larger venues, so we will build five new ones and renovate four. This venues will increase our production capacity by 60%. By June 2023, we will open the call for the tenders to complete the works by 2026.” As for the possibility of expanding to other lands, we will have to wait for the decisions of the City of Rome. “We have a pre-purchase contract,” Maccanico concludes, “If we can bring it home, we will build eight more theatres, but the preliminary phase is quite long.
