It is the day of verdicts for the 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival. Tonight, during the closing ceremony hosted by godmother Rocío Muñoz Morales, the jury composed of Julianne Moore (President), Mariano Cohn, Leonardo Di Costanzo, Audrey Diwan, Leila Hatami, Kazuo Ishiguro and Rodrigo Sorogoyen, will award the following official prizes to the feature films in Competition at Venice 79: Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize, Silver Lion – Best Director Award, Volpi Cup for Best Female Actor, Volpi Cup for Best Male Actor, Special Jury Prize, Best Screenplay Award, Marcello Mastroianni Award to a young emerging actor or actress.
The awards ceremony for the titles in the competition will be preceded by the awarding of prizes to films in competition in the Orizzonti section, dedicated to films representing new aesthetic and expressive trends. The jury, composed of Isabel Coixet (Chairwoman), Laura Bispuri, Antonio Campos, Sofia Djama and Édouard Waintrop will award the following prizes: Orizzonti Award for Best Film, Orizzonti Award for Best Director, Orizzonti Special Jury Award, Orizzonti Award for Best Female Performance, Orizzonti Award for Best Male Performance, Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay, Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film.
Space is also given to the Venice Opera Prima “Luigi De Laurentiis” Award, whose jury, composed of Michelangelo Frammartino, Jan P. Matuszyński, Ana Rocha de Sousa, Tessa Thompson and Rosalie Varda will award, without the possibility of ex aequo, among all the feature-length first works present in the different competitive sections of the Festival (Official Selection and Autonomous and Parallel Sections), the Leone del Futuro – Premio Venezia Opera Prima “Luigi De Laurentiis,” and a prize of USD 100,000, made available by Filmauro, which will be divided equally between the director and the producer.
The closing night will be broadcast live on Rai Movie and streamed on Rai Play at 6:45 p.m. Biennale social profiles will be updated in real time during the ceremony.
