Queer is based on a novel by William Burroughs. Daniel Craig plays the role of William Lee. ‘I accepted this role because I wanted to work with Guadagnino,’ Craig adds.’ It was my desire for at least 20 years. Craig doesn’t shy away from the inevitable questions about sex scenes. ‘There was choreography to shoot them,’ he admits, ‘We had several rehearsals; dancing breaks the ice, but there’s nothing intimate about a sex scene on set where you’re in a room full of people. We wanted it to be moving and made sure it was funny. ‘I read the book when I was 17 and, as a boy, dreamed of changing the world through cinema,’ the director adds,’ I wanted to be true to the young man I was. The conference ends, Daniel says goodbye and leaves in perfect British style. After the press conference, George and Brad’s autographs and jokes were more Yankee-style.
