Tv series also landed in Venice: the pilot of 30 coins (30 monedas), the Spanish HBO series directed by a Leone d’Argento, Álex de la Iglesia was presented out of competition. The controversial Basque director, awarded in Venice in 2010 for The Last Circus, tells with the usual taste for macabre irony and mixture of genres (horror, thriller, western) a story that brings up God and the Devil: «They can be considered aspects of the same entity that in itself it is much more complex», says De La Iglesia. «This is the constitutive element of our history: in the same church, some believers support different ways of understanding divine matter. God is Life, but also Death ».
The protagonist is Vergara (Eduard Fernández), an exorcist priest but also a boxer and ex-prisoner, grappling with a plot at the center of which are the coins paid to Judas to betray Jesus of Nazareth. In the cast also Megan Montaner and Miguel Ángel Silvestre.
