Movie of the day: “Lasciami andare”

It’s rare that an Italian director makes a movie from an international and successful novel. When it happens the result is usually very good. Paolo Virzì did it with The Human Capital by Stephen Amidon, English author that worked again with the Tuscan director as screenwriter for his American movie The Leisure Seeker. Stefano Mordini does the same with family drama He Came Back.

Marco discovers he is expecting a child, a a ray of light in his life after his heartbreak following the loss his first of Leo, his first born with his former wife Clara. Suddenly, however Perla, the new owner where the couple lived until the tragic accident, bursts into Marco’s and his ex-wife’s lives. The mysterious woman claims she keeps feeling a strange presence and hearing the voice of a child that is tormenting her and her son. Marco therefore finds himself torn between the ties of the past and an unwritten future.

Stefano Mordini is one of the more prolific Italian directors of these years and even more versatile jumping from thriller to comedy and now to a family drama with unexpected implications. Mordini shares this new adventure that closes Venezia 77 with Stefano Accorsi that was even the protagonist of his debut Provincia meccanica. Clara is Maya Sansa and Perla is Valeria Golino. Main cast is completed by Serena Rossi, the uprising star of Ammore e Malavita by Manetti brothers.
