Lido’s Chronicles

Spencer: Stewart, Larraìn and Lady D

Spencer was the other long-awaited movie of the third day of the Venice Film Festival. The story of Princess Diana, played by Kristen Stewart and directed by the Chilean director Pablo Larraìn is the chronicle of the solitude of the sad princess or simply «the ordinary of an extraordinary woman», this is the definition that gives the director of his Diana.

Kristen Stewart arrived in Venice together with positive reviews of the British press. Stewart is from LA and entered tiptoe in Lady D’s room and the complicated stuff of the Royal family.

«We had various consultants who explained to us unknown things of the Royal family– said the actress – There are many details in the movie, everything we did. I’m American and help was fundamental, but I kept few things of what I’ve learned. One is about the bow, it’s better not to bow too much if you don’t want to fall».

The story takes place in three days during Christmas in the royal residence of Sandringham House. During those days Diana decided to leave her royal life and have her freedom back.

«During the three days of her crisis» said Larraìn. «Those three days were not fun– admits Stewart – I tried to convey her need for freedom. The movie gives us more information about Lady D, but I can just imagine her feelings. My idea is that Diana was looking for ordinary life and receive from others the light she gave. The purpose of the movie is to build bridges, if someone wanted to make a movie about me I’d like it exactly like this. I think we did our best».

Diana left her life sieged by the press, Kristen does not find herself in the same situation, even if she knows how is living under the spotlights.

«I experienced this situation, but I did not was the symbol of an entire nation – she confessed – The idea of not having control of the situation is terrifying, it must be frustrating knowing that the story published about you is not true. We all have the feeling to have met her, but she probably was the loneliest human being on Earth. We’ll never know her story. And maybe it’s what she wanted».

Larraìn’s Diana was born to grant a wish. «After so many movies my mother didn’t like, I wanted to make one with a story she knew», concludes the director.
