Women in Cinema Award supports Afghan Women

Women in Cinema Award, the association created by Angela Prudenzi, Claudia Conte and Cristina Scognamillo, assigned yesterday its awards to those men and women that during their professional path gave particular attention to women. The voice of Afghan women is the one that raised in this third edition, those who were able to leave their country and her sisters that are caged in the terrible events of these days. «It’s important that all countries understand – said Zahra Ahmadi, Afghan activist for the rights of women who arrived from Kabul thanks to his brother Hamed efforts – which is the actual situation in Afghanistan. Taliban don’t reveal their real face, we are in constant danger. You must help us. I’m the voice of those who don’t have a voice, Taliban are assassins of our hope and soul, we can’t empower them». Young writer and director Shahrbanoo Sadat sent a video message: «Don’t leave us alone. I’m asking as an artist and a woman, we can’t express ourselves anymore and our lives are in danger. Taliban are terrorists, this must be crystal clear». All the protagonists of this year’s award embraced the plead: Alberta Ferretti, the first fashion designer to receive WiCA, Jasmila Zbanic, always on the front line telling strong stories, Marta Donzelli, producer and President of Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, actress Virginie Efira, writer Nadia Terranova, journalist Silvio Danese who wrote the novel Intervista alla sposa (An interview with the bride) an intense novel about violence against women. Alice Filippi received the award for best director for  Sul più bello. The award ceremony was hosted by Claudia Conte in the area managed by Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo. Awards were decided by the all female Academy composed by Fulvia Caprara, Alessandra De Luca, Titta Fiore, Alessandra Magliaro, Antonella Nesi, Chiara Nicoletti, Cristiana Paternò, Angela Prudenzi, Barbara Righini, Marina Sanna, Stefania Ulivi.
