David Wagner’s Eismayer is in competition at the International Critic’s Week. The title is also the name of the protagonist, a training officer of the Austrian army well known for his harsh methods. Eismayer has a secret: he’s homosexual but represses his sexuality, fearing the consequences for his job and his family. The urge to get out of the closet arrives with Falak, a private openly gay who just came into the regiment. Eismayer clashes with him, but he’s also very attracted. The film is based on a true story that Wagner turned into a script that won Script Talent Award 2019. Eismayer is paired with the short movie Puiet, directed by Lorenzo Fabbro and Bronte Stahlwhich runs in the SIC@SIC competition.
