Rai Cinema in Venice with 24 movies

24 movies, documentaries and shorts produced, co-produced or distributed Rai Cinema at Venezia 79. Five of these will be distributed by 01 Distribution for the Italian market. “An important and effective presence – Paolo Del Brocco, CEO of Rai Cinema says – at one of the most prestigious cinema events worldwide. Rai Cinema has four movies running for the Golden Lion and many others in the collateral sections. Our goal is to strengthen the connection between cinema and audience thanks to the powerful promotion of the festival and mark the beginning of the new season with high-quality cinema with a diversified offer and different genres to engage the audience of film theatres again”. 

Rai Cinema co-produced three out of five Italian films in competition: Monica by Andrea Pallaoro, in co-production with the USA and in competition today. “The portrait – Del Brocco explains – of a young woman that explores abandonment, acceptance, redemption and forgiveness”. Il signore delle formiche, by Gianni Amelio, “a reflection on individual civil rights and diversity”; Chiara by Susanna Nicchiarelli, a director always supported by Rai Cinema, who tells the story of the revolutionary energy of Santa Chiara from Assisi. In competition, there’s also The Son by Florian Zeller, with Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby and Anthony Hopkins, that 01 will distribute in theatres. Out of competition In viaggio by Gianfranco Rosi, about the travels of Pope Francesco during the nine years of his pontificate. The film will arrive in theatres on October 4 distributed by 01. Gli ultimi giorni dell’umanità is the movie about the famous Italian film critic Enrico Ghezzi. “In the last ten years – the President of Rai Cinema Nicola Claudio said – Rai Cinema designed and supported a project of real cinema”. There also two co-productions in Orizzonti: Ti mangio il cuore, by Pippo Mezzapesa, and Princess, by Roberto De Paolis. Margini by Niccolò Falsetti is the Italian movie at International Critic’s Week. The documentary Franco Zeffirelli. Conformista ribelle, directed by Anselma Dell’Olio runs for the competition of Venezia Classici.
