Parola d’ordine: condivisione. Dopo l’indigestione di audiovisivo in solitaria, da casa, tra divano e pc, arriva Taormina con i sui tre direttori tre. Alessandra De Luca, Francesco Alò e Federico Pontiggia, giornalisti e critici riconosciuti ma facce nuove (finalmente) sul panorama nazionale dei direttori di festival. Li abbiamo incontrati per capire com’è andata questa prima esperienza all’ombra dell’Etna, tra selezione, calendario in presenza e prospettive future post-pandemia.
“Non è stato difficile fare la selezione” ci dice Alessandra De Luca giornalista e storica conduttrice degli incontri stampa alla Mostra di Venezia “perché c’è una grande quantità di film che aspetta di essere presentata nei festival e di uscire nelle sale. Ne sono arrivati tantissimi, ne abbiamo visti 487; alcuni li abbiamo cercati attraverso le distribuzioni e dopo una prima scrematura abbiamo capito che i film non sono un problema per i festival, arrivano e anche di altissima qualità”.
Quale è stata la carta vincente di questa edizione?
“Quest’anno è stata la voglia di stare insieme, ci stiamo accorgendo dell’entusiasmo di ritrovarsi, vedere e discutere di film, a fare tutte quelle cose che prima davamo per scontate e che poi abbiamo capito che scontate non sono. La carta vincente è la diversità e la condivisione che sembrano concetti banali ma forse non lo sono più e non lo saranno mai più”.
“Credo che la parola d’ordine di un Festival che prova ad uscire dalla pandemia sia alterità, cioè affidarsi a un altro per scoprire più di sé” dice Federico Pontiggia, giornalista, conduttore tv e critico “Ma l’alterità non l’abbiamo cercata solo nella lontananza dei film stranieri ma anche in prossimità: i film italiani che proponiamo, Boys, Occhi Blu, La Terra dei Figli, A Classic Horror Story, Atlas, sono film diversi uno dall’altro. Ognuno di loro veicola un’idea di cinema che è l’idea di stare insieme e questa è la Taormina di quest’anno”.
Condivisione tra Teatro Antico e sale al chiuso, come sarà la prossima edizione?
“Il prossimo anno sarà una ficata pazzesca” dice Francesco Alò, critico e giornalista “dovremo essere ancora più fisici, dobbiamo portare qui le star, che è quello che ci è mancato quest’anno a causa del Covid, che ha coinvolto noi ma più che altro le grandi produzioni internazionali che hanno avuto difficoltà a portarci le grandi star. Taormina ha bisogno di questo, noi lo sappiamo benissimo, per il luogo, per com’è la città che con il suo Teatro Antico è di per sé una star. L’anno prossimo dobbiamo mettere la quarta e dobbiamo incontrare ancora di più il grande cinema in questo Festival storico”.
Pass code: sharing. After the audiovisual home indigestion home, between sofa and PC, here’s Taormina with its three directors. Alessandra De Luca, Francesco Alò and Federico Pontiggia, well known journalists and critics but new faces (finally) on the national scene of festival directors. We met them to understand how went this first experience under the volcano, talking about selection, attendance and post-pandemic future perspectives.
“Selection was not difficult” says Alessandra De Luca journalist and moderator of Venice Film Festival’s press conferences “because there are many films waiting to be presented at festivals and to be released in theaters. We have seen 487 movies, we looked for some of them through the distributions and after a first screening we realized that films are not a problem for festivals, they arrive and are also of the highest quality ”.
What was the winning card of this edition?
“This year it was the desire to be together, we are realizing the enthusiasm of meeting, seeing and discussing films, doing all those things we took for granted and then realized are not obvious. The winning cards are diversity and sharing that seem trivial concepts but perhaps they are no longer and never will be again“.
“I believe that the watchword of a Festival that tries to get out of the pandemic is otherness, that means relying on one another to find out more on oneself” says Federico Pontiggia, journalist, TV presenter and critic “But we looked for otherness not only in foreign films but also in the Italian one such as Boys, Occhi Blu, La Terra dei Figli, A Classic Horror Story, Atlas, all different from each other. Each of them conveys an idea of cinema which is the idea of being together and this is Taormina this year “.
Sharing between Teatro Greco and indoor theater, how do you imagine next year?
“Next year will be a crazy hit” says Francesco Alò, critic and journalist “we will have to be even more physical, bring back the stars here, which is what we have been missing this year because of Covid, which involved us but much more great international productions that had issues bringing us great stars. Taormina deserves this, we know it very well, Teatro Greco is a star itself. Next year we must push harder and bring even more great cinema in this historic festival“.
