Next door by and with Daniel Brühl is the best film of the 67th edition of Taormina Film Fest. The German actor also wins as best actor for his debut film behind the camera (also produced). Next Door is a declaration of love and a thought about the world of cinema and star system, an ambitious, funny and tragic piece of metacinema.
Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli win best direction for A Classic Horror Story, an award for this genre movie produced by Colorado Film and distributed by Netflix, the streaming platform that is an absolute beginner at Taormina Film Festival. A tribute to the genre tradition, surprising and irreverent and an absolute novelty in the universe of horror cinema.
The award for best actress goes to Matilda De Angelis, intense protagonist of Niccolò Castelli’s Atlas, produced by Imago Film and Tempesta and distributed by Vision Distribution. The actress continues to reveal an extraordinary ability to convey all the emotional complexity and authenticity of her characters.
In addition to the prizes related to Competition, the Festival celebrates the excellences of the entertainment industry with Taormina Arte Awards that will be delivered on the stage of Teatro Greco to the singer-songwriter Francesca Michielin for music, Anna Ferzetti for the versatility of her artistic talent and Ferzan Özpetek for his cinematic history, twenty years after The Ignorant Angels.
ENIT Award from National Tourism Agency will be handed to Gianluca Jodice, screenwriter and director of The Bad Poet, bright example of cinema celebrating the beauty of our country.
“Bringing cinema back on the big screen sharing the beauty of Teatro Greco was a challenge won together with Sicily and the city of Taormina making this Festival as a symbol of restart: cinematographic and human experience, not just audiovisual consumption”- declare the Artistic Directors of the Taormina Film Fest, Francesco Alò, Alessandra De Luca and Federico Pontiggia.
