It is always a great thrill being on stage at Teatro Greco. Even more in those nights when the music starts, the light dazzles and hides hundreds of faces and clapping hands, recalling the story, or better, history of a Film Festival sets in a magical place loved all over the world.
Silver Ribbons were in Rome once again this year, it was easier because of Covid. Taormina revives 75 candles of the Film Journalists Award.
Many of us are coming in Taormina since almost half a century, reviving each year the ritual of a Festival with a great international tradition. Every evening is a dip in the the past, when Teatro Greco trembled with feeling in front of superstars from all over the world. The much loved director Guglielmo Biraghi raised the curtain on international cinema, discovering films and talents – Picnic at Hanging Rock – just like the most precious shells of his collection of matchless malacologist.
The Best of Times. Perhaps even the shells are no longer the same, cinema is undoubtedly different but the stones of Teatro Greco are stil the most special red carpet. And I am sure that the image of Massimo Ghini moved in being nominated natural heir of the great Nino Manfredi, is the greatest gift that Luca and the whole Manfredi family, together with the Cinema Journalists, brings this year. as a dowry to this restart edition. Taormina starts with music with a movie looking at the past with tenderness. This is the best wish to all cinema lovers. Happy festival, Taormina ….
