Honeymood, first night is never forgotten

A comedy about a honeymoon turning into a crazy night in Jerusalem.

A newly married couple arrives in the luxurious suite that should be the setting for their wedding night. It should, because the unexpected gift from the groom’s ex-girlfriend sets off a nocturnal tour de force during which the couple travels across Jerusalem, an adventure that will put their marriage to a severe test.

Israeli cinema has discovered genres in recent years. There are many interesting horror movies, even politically incorrect and corrosive, successfully screened at the most important horror festivals worldwide. Comedy is also enjoying a rebirth and director Talya Live already achieved a great success with her debut film, Zero Motivation, the story of five young Israeli soldiers forced into an isolated outpost counting the minutes to come back to civilization. The film won the jury prize at the Tribeca in New York and six awards of the Israeli Film Academy.

Six years later, the director investigates once more the thirtysome Israeli generation with a romantic comedy with a classic  “all in one night” structure. The long journey through the wedding night is not only a series of funny situations, but also reflects the contradictions of a modern country linked to archaic traditions and a political situation that probably does not match the hope for the future of many younger citizens.

There is also a tasty cinephile gaze with a caustic reflection about (male) directors in this movie that owes a lot to classic American comedy and of course to John Landis.

The two protagonists Avigail Harari and Ran Darker both have a trip to Hollywood very soon in their destiny.
