Italian cinema has a new weapon

Film festivals took on greater importance after the pandemic. It is up to them to restore that direct relationship between films, authors, talents and the audience that the emergency has interrupted for 16 months, replaced by online events that would not be able to keep alive this special relationship, despite the massive audience reported by some of them. Festivals are also re-introducing movie talk thanks both to audiences and media and this is the way to feel that the show is something alive again and it is not just a bunch of people promoting goods through their IG profiles.

Then this is the perfect timing for the “gentle revolution” implemented by Taormina Festival Foundation choosing to entrust Videobank to produce the event and appointing three new directors to restore a precise physiognomy of the festival and making Taormina great again. The feedback of Alessandra De Luca, Federico Pontiggia and Francesco Alò was equal to expectations: the festival presents a high profile competition with great international and Italian titles (Taormina Film Fest is a further showcase for the national production) and highly anticipated out of competition special screenings, with the final surprise of Marvel’s Black Widow premiere.

It’s a great result and a decisive step to give back to the Taormina Film Fest, which celebrates its 67th edition and is one of the oldest film festivals in the world, the central role it deserves. Furthermore, it’s also an important engine for the beautiful city that hosts the event, a pearl of the Mediterranean Sea known all over the world that this year really “married” the festival, dressing up its streets with the festival brand and multiplying the places where it is possible to meet the protagonists of cinema.
