Superata la concorrenza della Cenerentola di Andrew Lloyd Webber, Les Misérables e tutti gli altri nominati come Best Musical Theater Album, la vittoria del Grammy Award 2022 è andata a The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical. Un progetto al quale Emily Bear e Abigail Barlow avevano iniziato a lavorare durante il lockdown e che è nato sull’onda dell’entusiasmo suscitato nei fan della serie Netflix.

Proprio la rete, e TikTok, si sono infatti rivelati fondamentali nella genesi del musical che reimmagina la prima stagione della serie basata sui romanzi di Julia Quinn e prodotta da Shonda Rhimes. Che le stesse autrici e compositrici hanno ricordato così nel discorso di ringraziamento:
“Un anno fa, quando ho chiesto a Internet ‘E se Bridgerton fosse un musical?’ non avrei potuto immaginare che avremmo avuto un Grammy tra le mani – ha detto la Barlow. – Vogliamo ringraziare tutti coloro che su Internet ci hanno visto creare questo album da zero, lo condividiamo con voi”.
“Questo è davvero per tutte le mie colleghe produttrici, compositrici e ingegnere che stanno ancora lottando per ottenere riconoscimento e supporto per ciò che facciamo“, ha aggiunto la Bear, ribadendo che “noi esistiamo!”.
