Si è tenuta ieri, in modalità virtuale, la 49ª edizione degli Annie Awards, i premi cinematografici dedicati al campo dell’animazione (film, serie TV e videogiochi), conferiti ogni anno dai membri della ASIFA-Hollywood. Una serata che ha visto trionfare Netflix, dominatore delle categorie principali con le vittorie in campo cinematografico de I Mitchell contro le macchine e in campo seriale di Arcane, l’adattamento ambientato nell’universo videoludico di League of Legends.
The Mitchells vs the Machines, il film della Sony Pictures diretto da Rianda e Jeff Rowe, si è aggiudicato il premio come miglior lungometraggio battendo Luca, Encanto, Sing 2 e Raya e l’ultimo drago. Una vittoria che lo pone indubbiamente in una posizione di primo piano in vista degli Oscar 2022. Negli ultimi 20 anni, infatti, ben 14 volte il vincitore del premio Annie è combaciato con quello degli Oscar come miglior film d’animazione (l’ultimo è stato Soul nell’edizione precedente).

Arcane, invece, ha trionfato in tutte le categorie nelle quali era nominato, aggiudicandosi nove premi in totale, compreso quello di Best TV/Media.
Flee, altro contendente all’Oscar in ben tre categorie, si è aggiudicato l’International Feature Annie come Best Indie Feature.
