world premiere

The only Italian feature film in competition at the 39th International Critics’ Week is Milad Tangshir’s Anywhere Anytime, a sort of Bicycle Thieves in today’s Italy. The attackers of Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini’s masterpiece have become riders. Among them is the young illegal immigrant Issa, who, echoing the human tragedy of Antonio, the character played by Lamberto Maggiorani in the Oscar-winner film of Italian Neorealism, will set out in desperate search of the stolen vehicle. SIC Director and General Delegate Beatrice Fiorentino described the film as ‘a sincere social drama, full of humanity and emotion‘. The director, born in Iran and moved to Italy in 2011, has already directed several shorts and documentaries, including The Celebration, Star Stuff and VR Free (presented in Venice in 2019). For the SIC@SIC competition, it is the turn of Gabriele Manzoni’s Phantom.
