The series, inspired by the novel of the same name by Antonio Scurati, winner of the Premio Strega, is a modern and biting portrait of Benito Mussolini and his political rise, from the foundation of the Fasci di Combattimento to the imposition of the fiercest dictatorship Italy has ever known. The eight episodes will tell the story of a country that surrendered to dictatorship and the story of a man who was able to rise many times from its ashes. It will retrace history from 1919 to Mussolini’s infamous speech in Parliament in 1925 after the murder of the socialist deputy Giacomo Matteotti. It will also offer an insight into Mussolini’s private life and relationships, including those with his wife Rachele, his lover Margherita Sarfatti and other iconic figures of the time. Luca Marinelli plays Benito Mussolini. Marinelli won David di Donatello, Nastro d’Argento, Coppa Volpi in Venice and the prestigious Shooting Stars Award at the Berlin Film Festival. M. will debut on Sky in 2025.
