prima mondiale
Moattar binanaa, Egitto/Francia/Tunisia/Qatar, 2024. Regia Muhammed Hamdy. Interpreti Alaa El Din Hamada, Mahdy Abo Bahat, Abdo Zin El Din. Durata 1h e 53’.
The latest feature film in competition at the 39th International Critics’ Week is Perfumed with Mint by Muhammed Hamdy (former director of photography for titles such as The Square at his debut feature). Doctor Bahaa and his friend Mahdy flee from the ghosts of the past. SIC Director and General Delegate Beatrice Fiorentino said that the movie is the image of ‘a generation condemned to perennial exile, misunderstood and hunted down for its sprouting “diversity”‘, bringing out, through the filter of magic realism, ‘the social tensions of North Africa, a region still torn between tradition and modernity‘. On the same day, in competition for SIC@SIC, we have the short film Nero Argento by Francesco Manzato.
