Her first participation at the Venice Film Festival dates back to 2011 as an actress in the short film Alice by Roberto de Paolis. Thirteen years later, Sveva Alviti, 40, from Rome, returns to the Lido as the Godmother of the opening and closing evenings. A ‘magical surprise‘ for the interpreter of Dalida, who described herself to Ciak as ‘determined to represent the Festival in the best possible way’.
What does the Venice Film Festival mean to you?
It represents dreams, work, sacrifice, and the chance to watch beautiful movies. I was struck by the beauty of the films, documentaries and shorts selected in every edition I have attended. This experience will also stimulate me in my future ambitions.
How much has Sveva Alviti changed since the first Venice?
Very much. I worked with French cinema in films that went to Cannes and on Netflix, playing incredible characters, including Dalida, a star who gave 100 per cent to her audience and fought for what she believed in. As a woman, I have matured, and I feel more aware. Before, I was always chasing something or had the feeling that I wasn’t enough. Today, I feel in the right place at the right time. Life is giving me so much. I want to do well.
Many stars will arrive at the Lido. Which of them would you like to meet and get to know better?
I look forward to seeing the Gaga-Phoenix duo in Joker Folie à Deux. I loved the first film, with that art-house cinema identity. Of the stars, I would love to meet Julianne Moore, whom I respect for her eclecticism, and Angelina Jolie, an extremely human woman. Everything she does, in front of and behind the screen, is magnificent; she inspires me as a woman, mother, director, and actress.
Since we were talking about France, did you follow the Paris Olympics? Are you a sportswoman?
I followed them all, particularly tennis, which I played competitively and which formed me and taught me tenacity. I am delighted with Lorenzo Musetti, Sara Errani, and Jasmine Paolini’s medals. Watching the sacrifice pay off is incredible.
On the other hand, there will be no sport in Venice, but glamour will. Have you chosen the looks you will wear?
Of course, I have chosen looks that represent me and make me feel good. I will play with styles and pay homage to film icons of the past, Italian and foreign. It’s fun to feel like a princess.
Where will we see you next?
I will be starring with Lucia Mascino in Nudes 2. The series is about revenge porn and will be released on RaiPlay. In November, I will start an American indie film about violence against women. A project that I wanted and sought out.
