“The Killer represents my attempt to reconcile the vision I’ve had for years about cinematic stories with the way we tell them,” said director David Fincher, introducing his new feature at Venice 80. The filmmaker sai about his lead actor, Michael Fassbender, that “He was perfect for the role, and then he’s an actor who can do tremendous things, returning any colour you ask him to do.” The title character, Fincher continued, “was not meant to be a character who embodies evil, because at heart he is also a man full of doubt.” As for Tilda Swinton: “Everyone wants to work with her. She’s like a unicorn.” And about the strike in Hollywood: “I’m very sad about what’s going on. I try to understand both sides, and in the end, we must have a dialogue.”
