The dramatic reality of prisons in Chile is shown to us by Malqueridas, Tana Gilbert’s debut feature in competition at International Critics Week. “Stories of sisterhood and betrayal, of denied motherhood, of love life and death, the conception of an “other” space and time, the low-definition vertical image as a gesture of self-affirmation” are, summarized SIC General Delegate Beatrice Fiorentino, the critical elements of this film, which tells the stories of several women, mothers and inmates from the images they shot clandestinely with cell phones in prison. In contrast, Antonio La Camera’s Las memorias perdidas de los árboles competes among the SIC@SIC shorts.
