VERMIN
SIC – Special event – Closing film
Vermin, France, 2023. Director Sébastien Vaniček With Théo Christine, Sofia Lesaffre, Jérôme Niel, Lisa Nyarko, Finnegan Oldfield Running time 1h 43′
Double closing, double out-of-competition special event for the 38th edition of the International Film Critics’ Week. From France, recently traversed by protests and social unrest, comes this year’s latest fiction feature, Vermin, the debut work of Sébastien Vaniček (already winner of several awards with his previous shorts), also screenwriter with Florent Bernard. Entertainment and critique of the present coexist in this political horror film where an invasion of poisonous spiders allegorizes neo-capitalism, and the inhabitants of a suburban apartment building will have to fight for their survival. SIC@SIC also ends its run with the short film Tilipirche by Francesco Piras.
