ENZO JANNACCI VENGO ANCHE IO

Out of competition

Italy 2023, Director Giorgio Verdelli Running time 97′

“This film is not a biography of Enzo Jannacci but an exploration of his world with his friends and “students” of several generations. The artist Jannacci was inseparable from the man, the creative genius capable of saying “Life is a black hole at the end of the Tram,” “Io e te,” but also “Stessa Squadra, Stessa Osteria,” “Una sola donna, la mia,” “L’Armando,” with a capacity for synthesis and invention that never ceased to amaze and excite. We miss Jannacci. We miss very much that wry and intelligent smile capable of capturing with a word, with a flash of wit in his eyes, capable of enclosing a world in ‘Why not’.” Giorgio Verdelli’s Enzo Jannacci vengo anch’io is a celebration of the eclectic and disorienting talent of one of our country’s most outstanding cabaret performers and songwriters, too often underestimated for his constant refusal to be caged in any predefined genre or style. Enzo Jannacci (1935 – 2013), thanks to his extraordinary linguistic and musical inventions, was able to move between singer-songwriter and cabaret, rock’n’roll and jazz, theatre and cinema, making himself an interpreter of the contradictions of his own time and his city, Milan. Giorgio Verdelli (Pino Daniele. Il tempo resterà, 2017; Paolo Conte – Via con me, 2020; Ezio Bosso – Le cose che restano, 2021) stages an intimate and poetic portrait of an artist in which archival footage and interviews also allow us to discover the critical role Jannacci played in the genesis of Via del Campo sung by Fabrizio De André. Among the many testimonials of this documentary there are Roberto Vecchioni, Diego Abatantuono, Paolo Jannacci, Dalia Gaberscik, Vasco Rossi, Claudio Bisio, Cochi Ponzoni, Elio, Dori Ghezzi, Paolo Rossi, Francesco Guccini, J-Ax, Fabio Treves, Paolo Conte, Francesco Gabbani, Guido Harari.
