Venice 80 has one more de luxe theatre.
The Sala Perla, completely refurbished according to the most modern (and environmentally friendly) concepts of fruition, was inaugurated yesterday by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, who was welcomed by the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, and by Roberto Cicutto and Alberto Barbera. “The function of cinema as an ‘ambassador of our culture,'” said the minister, “is alive. The Film Festival plays an irreplaceable role in this sense.” Sangiuliano also recalled the government’s concrete initiatives in support of Italian and European cinema, which until Sept. 15 allows people to see films in theatres by paying a ticket of only €3.50: “It has been a success, but what is closest to my heart is to have contributed to restoring the habit of going to the cinema to the many who had lost it because of the pandemic.”
