Apulia is the protagonist in 5 upcoming stories between Italy and the US

From the captivating Italian-Mexican Casi el Paraìso to the enchanting L’Ultima settimana di Settembre, these films and series are set in the picturesque locations of Apulia, Italy, and the US. The invaluable contribution of the Apulia Film Commission made them possible.

On 12 September, Medusa will release L’Ultima settimana di Settembre, a road buddy movie starring a grandfather and grandson, played by Diego Abatantuono, alias Pietro Rinaldi, an elderly writer in decline, widowed and with plans to commit suicide on his birthday, and the young Biagio Venditti, in the role of Mattia, who is suddenly orphaned, leading Pietro to have to take care of him. L’Ultima settimana di Settembre is the debut feature by Apulian director Gianni De Blasi, originally from Scorrano, in the province of Lecce, one of the film’s locations, along with Nardò and Gallipoli. Attilio De Razza and Nicola Picone produce it for Tramp Limited in association with Passo Uno Cinema (of which De Blasi is vice-president), Medusa Film and Prime Video. The film was made with the contribution of the Apulia Film Fund by the Apulia Film Commission and the Apulia Region. The story is based on the novel of the same name by Lorenzo Licalzi, written by Pippo Mezzapesa, Antonella W. Gaeta, and De Blasi himself.

Also to be released on 12 September in Mexico and the USA will be Casi el Paraìso by Edgar San Juan. This film beautifully captures the essence of Italian and Mexican cultures. Filmed in the stunning locations of Bari, Taranto, Lecce, Ruvo, Giovinazzo, and Bitritto, this is the story of Fan Italian nobleman who moves to Mexico in the 1950s to escape patrons and lovers.

Also on the way are some serial products shot in the region: the second season of Storia di una famiglia perbene to be released on the Mediaset networks, Leopardi – Il poeta dell’infinito (Leopardi – The poet of the infinite ) to be released in December on Raiuno, and Qui non è Hollywood (Here is not Hollywood ) coming in October on Disney+. The operation is realised within the framework of the intervention ‘Promuovere il Cinema 2024’, financed by the Apulia Region and realised by the Apulia Film Commission Foundation, using POC Puglia 204-2020 resources, Action 6.7.
