TO KILL A MONGOLIAN HORSE
Giornate degli Autori – Competition
Malaysia, United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, 2024, Director Xiaoxuan Jiang Running time 98′,
Sala Corinto 19.45 pm
Amidst the winter steppes, Saina, a Mongolian horseman and performer, tends his ranch during the day and performs for the public at night. Unlike the regal horseman he plays in the show, in everyday reality, Saina discovers that his life as a herdsman is on the brink of an abyss. ‘When I visited him at the horse fair, I was struck by the hyper-masculine atmosphere, where traditional Mongolian masculinity stood out. In the film, Saina plays himself; he is a character who oscillates between the world of horse shows and his struggles in real life; he begins to find the stark contrast between the roles he plays and his current condition irreconcilable’.

PEACHES GOES BANANAS
Giornate degli Autori – Concorso
France, Belgium. 2024. Directed by Marie Losier. Starring Merrill Nisker (Peaches). Running time 73′
French director Marie Losier has a particular talent for staging portraits of underground musicians. Her feature films include The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye (2011), about Genesis P-Orridge, Lady Jaye and the band Psychic TV (founded by Genesis P-Orridge after the break-up of Throbbing Gristle) and Felix in Wonderland! (2019) about electronic musician Felix Kubin. For the past 17 years, Marie Losier has filmed Canadian electropunk singer and queer feminist icon Peaches. Between packed concerts, a close relationship with her sister Suri and the staging of her first opera Whose Jizz Is This?, which Peaches describes as ‘a deconstructed musical in 14 scenes’, Peaches Goes Bananas is an intimate portrait of an artist who breaks taboos and embraces every stage of life by transforming her body into art.
